Calella is a very popular swimming training destination known by most UK and European clubs. The Costa del Maresme town, is only 25 miles away from Barcelona and it has very good transport communications with the Catalan capital.

The Crol Centre operates an outdoor 10 lane Olympic swimming pool (50m x 25m) heated to a constant temperature of 27°, so it can be used throughout the whole year. Located just metres from the beach, the centre also offers an adjacent area dedicated to strength building, gymnastics and an area for stretching, which makes Calella a perfect place for swimmers.
The pool is not only used by swimming groups but also by visiting and local water polo and synchronised swimming teams.
Located just 100 metres from the beach in Calella and only 70 metres to the Crol Centre Olympic pool, this modern, boutique hotel offers stylish rooms.
The Air-conditioned rooms include flat-screen satellite TV, a minibar and a safe. The private bathrooms include a bath with chromotherapy, and a hairdryer.
Hotel Sant Jordi’s large Thalasso Spa has several different pools, baths, showers and water jets. It also offers a range of massages and treatments. Swimmers have 2 hours free access daily to the hotel’s spa and gym, located 100 yards away.
Calella Train Station is a 20-minute walk away and Barcelona can be reached in around an hour’s train ride if any excursion is required.
Hotel Bernat II is a four-star hotel specially designed for families and groups in mind. The hotel is located in the residential area of Calella a few metres from the beach and five minutes from the local shopping centre. Within a short 3 – 5 minute walk to the pool facilities, it’s in an ideal location for any training group.
The hotel offers stylish, air-conditoned accommodation with balconies. Each of its rooms has a minibar and a flat-screen TV with satellite channels
Complimentary wireless Internet access is provided along with phones and in-room safes (accommodate laptops). Bathrooms include handheld showerheads, makeup/shaving mirrors, and bidets.
Mediterranean cuisine is served in the Bernat’s restaurant. The poolside bar features occasional live music and entertainment. The hotel also has a restaurant at the beach, the Bahari Club
The on-site spa features a Finnish sauna, Turkish baths and hydromassage pool.
There are many flight options to/from Barcelona Airport. Scheduled airlines such as British Airways & Iberia fly daily and ‘Low cost’ airlines such as Ryanair, Easyjet, Jet2 and Norwegian Air also fly into and out of Barcelona Airport from London and other regional airports. The airport transfer time to/from the hotel/training facilities is approximately 1 hour by private coach transfer.
From some UK airports it’s possible to fly to Girona, which is the closest airport to Calella taking 30 minutes by private bus transfer. Ryanair, Jet2, Thomas Cook Airlines and Tui Airways all operate direct flight services but not always daily.
Flight costs vary from £100 in low season to £250+ in high season periods.
